Rights of Women from 6.00pm - 6.00am.

This posting is to complement and/or in addition to Linundus Kinabalu article on ‘What to do if stopped by Police”. Linundus contributer has emailed this article to me for obvious reason – to post this article in this blog to inform members of the public, particularly to the women with regard to their rights from 6.00pm – 6.00am. This is an incident about a girl who was raped by a bogus(?) plain clothes officer. The lesson we learn from this incident may well be an eye opener for those who do not know the law and women’s rights. It is therefore good for us to know the women’s rights in certain situation such as in the following scenario. The conversation goes on like this based on the Email Linundus received from DJJG: “I was talking with a lawyer friend of mine. We were discussing the law and women`s rights. She told me about this incident.” “A young girl was raped by a man posing as a plain clothes officer; he asked her to come to the police station when she and her male friend didn't have a driver`s license to show.” “He sent the boy off to get his license and asked the girl to accompany him to the police station. He took her instead to an isolated area where the horrendous crime was committed.” Then the lawyer friend proceeded to explain the following on the point of law: “In fact, the law clearly states that between 6 pm and 6am, a woman has the right to REFUSE to go to the Police Station, even if an arrest warrant has been issued against her.” “It is a procedural issue that a woman can be arrested between 6pm and 6 am, ONLY if she is arrested by a woman officer and taken to an ALL WOMEN police station.” “And if she is arrested by a male officer, it has to be proven that a woman officer was on duty at the time of arrest." ”Comments by the writer: “It is good for us to know our rights. To what extent it comes of use remains to be seen in any situation. But as they say, “Knowledge is Power”. Just thought I`d share this with you. I did not know this and am sure a lot of us will not know this - please be informed … and pass on this info to whomever you all know.”

PM wants cops to send shivers down spine of criminals

KUALA LUMPUR: Thursday, 26 March 2009. The police must instil fear and send shivers down the spine of criminals who have become more brazen, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. “The police should utilise their capabilities and resources to prove to criminals that they have what it takes to defeat bad hats,” he added.

“Show them and the public that you are a force to be reckoned with. Instil fear in criminals so that you can effectively combat crimes in a professional and responsible manner,’’ the PM said during his speech at the 202nd Police Day celebrations at the police training centre on Jalan Semarak yesterday.

“Criminals must be made to fear the strength and effectiveness of the police. We must show them that we are able to match them, especially now when criminals arm themselves with modern and sophisticated weapons,” he added.

During the parade, PM witnessed the presentation of 25 Mitsubishi Evolution X (Evo10) cars and 426 Honda ST 1300 motorcycles that would be used by the police for fast and effective response at crime scenes.

Meanwhile, IGP Musa, in his speech, vowed that he and his men would serve the nation with full responsibility.

Comments from Linundus: The PM’s message to the Cops, perhaps the last one from him, is very timely. It is time for the Cops to reflect whether they have been performing according to what the PM and their Big Boss have said.

As for now, the public is beginning to lose their confidence in them, perhaps even lost, due to their indifferent attitude when responding to public calls for Police investigation.

I have just met a person this morning who informed me that the Cops are as swift as an arrow to respond if there is a call from the public (normally from the losers) regarding gambling cases in the Kampong . This is a commendable act. But why? Criminal and civil cases such as house breaking, drug pushing, immoral activities, etc, are more important to be attended to and would require urgent and professional attention than the petty gamblers in the Kampong.

The Police Department should not take Linundus comments as insulting to them, but to take it as a constructive feedback from the public for the purpose of improving their policing duty and of taking action responsibly. They should respond to public calls without choice of duties and hesitation.

It is very sad to hear comments from members of the public that they are discouraged to call the Police, let alone to make police reports, should there be any incident that requires police investigation. This is disheartening to note when the Police are supposed to discharge their duties responsibly. This could be the reason why (when) there is a drop in criminal cases (if there is any) because of non-reporting from the public. I may be wrong.

With the PM’s and IGP’s messages, and the latter having vowed that “his men would serve the nation with full responsibility”, we expect the Police Force to improve their performances as expected of them, and to once again regain the public confidence. Linundus.

Earth Hour is a mere publicity stunt

Marcus writes ...

I READ with amazement and irony the efforts of WWF Malaysia to latch on to the Earth Hour event and all the celebrities, media and corporations that have come up in support.

It is amazing that people are so easily taken in by a mere publicity stunt that fails at the very essence. Turning off our lights for one hour on one designated day of the year to save our planet surely is a PR event at best.

It shames the thousands of devoted people, government bodies, scientists and environmentalists that have for years been working on finding real solutions to address this global concern. Malaysians should see past this gimmick by international NGOs and start changing their lifestyles. Surely we can be more proactive and not be fed by an agenda of international bodies.

Why don’t we implement power conservation programmes, ride public transport on certain days in a month, car pool, etc?

It is also ironic that the organiser, WWF Malaysia, up until very recently, did not even have a climate change programme to begin with when all others (even local groups and individuals) have been persistent in their pleas for Malaysians to take action.

Remember, our leaders signed the Kyoto Protocol and there has been concerted movement towards reaching solutions. Please let us all be enlightened and move away from celebrations and gimmicks.

MARCUS,
Petaling Jaya.

Linundus comments: In Sabah, there is already an irregular power failure. Recently, SESB has already issued a statement in the local paper to warn the public that there will be a power shedding execise before the end of this month to facilitate maintenance and repairs to the Tenom Pangi Hydro damaged by heavy rainfall that caused the Padas River to swell. To be fair to all, let SESB turn off the Power from Tenom Pangi Hydro for one hour from 8.30pm when we observe the Earth Hour. After all, we have gotten used to power failure anyway.

'OBAMA' and 'RAHMAN'

In USA, the name 'OBAMA' has its special significance and meaning:

O - Originally

B - Born in

A - Africa to

M - Manage the

A - Americans

God Bless America.

But in Malaysia, there is also a name 'RAHMAN' to signify the names of Malaysian Prime Ministers, the last initial is 'N'. Is it Najib?

It is now a foregone conclusion that Najib will become the next PM and thus completing the word 'RAHMAN'.

But Tengku Razaleigh reminds us the Agong and Parliament have a crucial role to play in the appointment of the Prime Minister.

Let us understand very clearly the transitional situation we are in. READ HERE.

Bishop Cornelius Piong on the word "Allah"

"Our worship of Allah is so natural, it is part and parcel of the Kadazandusun people here," Bishop Cornelius Piong told Reuters on Wednesday, March 11.
"The government of West Malaysia has an infection of religious hatred. We have to fight back so it does not spread." READ HERE.

God's Love - Tommy's Story

It is hoped that after reading this true story written by Rev. Fr. John Powel, a professor at Loyola University in Chicago, about a student in his Theology of Faith class named Tommy, we are reminded how much God is present in our lives.

If we remove the brick wall built between us and God’s love, we would be sharing His love during our Earthly hours – Linundus.

Rev. Fr. John Powel writes: Some twelve years ago, I stood watching my university student’s file into the classroom for our first session in the Theology of Faith. That was the day I first saw Tommy. My eyes and my mind both blinked. He was combing his long flaxen hair, which hung six inches below his shoulders. It was the first time I had ever seen a boy with hair that long. I guess it was just coming into fashion then.
I know in my mind that it isn't what's on your head but what's in it that counts; but on that day I was unprepared and my emotions flipped. I immediately filed Tommy under "S" for strange... Very strange. Tommy turned out to be the "atheist in residence" in my Theology of Faith course. He constantly objected to, smirked at, or whined about the possibility of an unconditionally loving Father/God. We lived with each other in relative peace for one semester, although I admit he was for me at times a serious pain in the back pew. When he came up at the end of the course to turn in his final exam, he asked in a cynical tone, "Do you think I'll ever find God?" I decided instantly on a little shock therapy. "No!" I said very emphatically. "Why not," he responded, "I thought that was the product you were pushing." I let him get five steps from the classroom door and then called out, "Tommy! I don't think you'll ever find Him, but I am absolutely certain that He will find you!."
He shrugged a little and left my class and my life. I felt slightly disappointed at the thought that he had missed my clever line - "He will find you!" At least I thought it was clever. Later I heard that Tommy had graduated, and I was duly grateful. Then a sad report came. I heard that Tommy had terminal cancer. Before I could search him out, he came to see me. When he walked into my office, his body was very badly wasted and the long hair had all fallen out as a result of chemotherapy. But his eyes were bright and his voice was firm, for the first time, I believe. "Tommy, I've thought about you so often; I hear you are sick," I blurted out. "Oh, yes, very sick. I have cancer in both lungs. It's a matter of weeks." "Can you talk about it, Tom?" I asked. "Sure, what would you like to know?" he replied.  "What's it like to be only twenty-four and dying?” "Well, it could be worse." "Like what?” "Well, like being fifty and having no values or ideals, like being fifty and thinking that booze, seducing women, and making money are the real biggies in life.” I began to look through my mental file cabinet under "S" where I had filed Tommy as strange. (It seems as though everybody I try to reject by classification, God sends back into my life to educate me.) "But what I really came to see you about," Tom said, "is something you said to me on the last day of class." (He remembered!) He continued, "I asked you if you thought I would ever find God and you said, 'No!' which surprised me”. Then you said, 'But He will find you.' I thought about that a lot, even though my search for God was hardly intense at that time. (My clever line. He thought about that a lot!) "But when the doctors removed a lump from my groin and told me that it was malignant, that's when I got serious about locating God. And when the malignancy spread into my vital organs, I really began banging bloody fists against the bronze doors of heaven. But God did not come out. In fact, nothing happened”. Did you ever try anything for a long time with great effort and with no success? You get psychologically glutted, fed up with trying. And then you quit. "Well, one day I woke up, and instead of throwing a few more futile appeals over that high brick wall to a God who may be or may not be there, I just quit. I decided that I didn't really care about God, about an after-life, or anything like that. I decided to spend what time I had left doing something more profitable”. I thought about you and your class and I remembered something else you had said: 'The essential sadness is to go through life without loving. But it would be almost equally sad to go through life and leave this world without ever telling those you loved that you had loved them.' "So, I began with the hardest one, my Dad. He was reading the newspaper when I approached him. "Dad”. "Yes, what?" he asked without lowering the newspaper. "Dad, I would like to talk with you." "Well, talk." "I mean. It's really important." The newspaper came down three slow inches. "What is it?" "Dad, I love you, I just wanted you to know that." Tom smiled at me and said it with obvious satisfaction, as though he felt a warm and secret joy flowing inside of him. "The newspaper fluttered to the floor. Then my father did two things I could never remember him ever doing before. He cried and he hugged me. We talked all night, even though he had to go to work the next morning. It felt so good to be close to my father, to see his tears, to feel his hug, to hear him say that he loved me." "It was easier with my mother and little brother. They cried with me, too, and we hugged each other, and started saying real nice things to each other. We shared the things we had been keeping secret for so many years”. "I was only sorry about one thing - that I had waited so long. Here I was, just beginning to open up to all the people I had actually been close to.” "Then, one day I turned around and God was there. He didn't come to me when I pleaded with Him. I guess I was like an animal trainer holding out a hoop, 'C'mon, jump through. C'mon, I'll give you three days, three weeks.” "Apparently God does things in His own way and at His own hour. But the important thing is that He was there. He found me! You were right. He found me even after I stopped looking for Him." "Tommy," I practically gasped, "I think you are saying something very important and much more universal than you realize. To me, at least, you are saying that the surest way to find God is not to make Him a private possession, a problem solver, or an instant consolation in time of need, but rather by opening to love.” "You know, the Apostle John said that. He said: 'God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him." "Tom, could I ask you a favor? You know, when I had you in class you were a real pain. But (laughingly) you can make it all up to me now. Would you come into my present Theology of Faith course and tell them what you have just told me? If I told them the same thing it wouldn't be half as effective as if you were to tell it”. "Oooh.. I was ready for you, but I don't know if I'm ready for your class." "Tom, think about it. If and when you are ready, give me a call." In a few days Tom called, said he was ready for the class, that he wanted to do that for God and for me. So we scheduled a date. However, he never made it. He had another appointment, far more important than the one with me and my class. Of course, his life was not really ended by his death, only changed. He made the great step from faith into vision. He found a life far more beautiful than the eye of man has ever seen or the ear of man has ever heard or the mind of man has ever imagined. Before he died, we talked one last time. "I'm not going to make it to your class," he said. "I know, Tom" "Will you tell them for me? Will you ... tell the whole world for me?" “I will, Tom. I'll tell them. I'll do my best." So, to all of you who have been kind enough to read this simple story about God's love, thank you for (reading). And to you, Tommy, somewhere in the sunlit, verdant hills of heaven --- I told them, Tommy, as best I could. If this story means anything to you, please pass it on to a friend or two. It is a true story and is not enhanced for publicity purposes. With thanks, Rev. John Powell, Professor, Loyola University, Chicago

Science Cannot Disprove Faith, Cardinal Argues

March 03, 2009

Speaking at the opening of a Vatican conference marking the 150th anniversary of Darwin's Origin of Species, Cardinal William Levada said that it is "absurd" to suggest that modern science can disprove the existence of God. The prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said that scientific inquiry and religious faith are separate endeavors, and it is a logical error to think that one could determine the other. Christian doctrine does not explain the physical processes by which Creation took place, the cardinal observed. "We believe that however creation has come about and evolved, ultimately God is the creator of all things," he explained. Briefly addressing the debate over Creationist theory, the American prelate said that the Church would not take a stand on a properly scientific issue. "The Vatican listens and learns," he said.

Who Killed Jesus?

"He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:5-6, NIV).

The death of Jesus Christ is the most famous in history. The state-sanctioned murder that took place almost 2,000 years ago is still in today's news. No other crime against the innocent has remained so widespread in the consciousness of humanity for so long. This one lives on as a story that is told again and again.

The injustice of the arrest, trial and death of Jesus Christ is profound in that no person was ever so innocent, so sinless, so blameless, so undeserving of such punishment. Peter testifies that He "committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth" (1 Peter 2:22). He was the most virtuous man who ever lived.

Jesus challenged His enemies, "Which of you convicts Me of sin?" (John 8:46). The centurion, the officer in charge of His execution, was convinced that He had executed a righteous man (Luke 23:47). One of the thieves crucified with Him understood that Jesus had done nothing wrong and didn't deserve to die (Luke 23:41).

Pilate, the governor who issued the final command for the execution to proceed, proclaimed twice to the Jews that he found no fault in Jesus (John 18:38; 19:4). Yet the deed was carried out, in all its horror and intensity, not sparing this innocent Man.

He did nothing to deserve the horrendous death imposed on Him, for He was "holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners" (Hebrews 7:26). He was, after all, the Son of God, as the centurion recognized (Mark 15:39). This was not the injustice of the century, or the millennium, but the injustice of the history of the human race.

"Shoplifting" at BIA will land you to trouble...

The following email I received may sound ridiculous and unbelievable. But, according to the sender, it happened to one of his colleague’s relative whilst in Thailand. Whether this is true or not, do beware and be alert whenever purchasing any duty free items from the BANGKOK'S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, and if not paid for...you can be in a hell lot of trouble, that is, you can be set up too...!!!

The following is the email I publish in its entirety, to warn all those Bangkok-bound visitors:-

“Dear All,

My Department's Secretary informed me on this. Her cousin was detained in Bangkok for stealing a box of cigarettes in a duty-free shop in Bangkok International Airport. He had paid for some chocolates and a carton of cigarettes. The cashier put a packet of smokes into his bag and he thought it was a free pack. He was arrested for shop-lifting and the Thai Police extortion price was RM30,000.00 for his release. He spent two nights in jail and paid RM50.00 for an air-cond cell, 200-300 Baht for each visitor, and RM11,000.00 for his final release. The Police shared the money in front of his eyes. On top of that, he was charged in court and fined RM2,000.00 by the Magistrate and was handcuffed and escorted to his plane. His passport was stamped "Thief". Whilst there, his relatives requested help from the Malaysian Embassy and was told that they too are helpless as Malaysians are victimised similarly daily while letters and phone-calls to the Thai Authorities are totally ignored. He shared a cell with a Singaporean the first night who paid RM60,000.00 for his release. The  second night was an Indian national who paid USD70,000.00. Mind you, this is not in a shag downtown Bangkok but in a duty free shop in BANGKOK'S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

SO BE WARNED AND BE TOTALLY ALERT!!!

Thank you.

Regards “

The Acceptable Time

"It’s Lent in the Year of St. Paul – and what an opportunity for us to live according to his spirit!"
Dr. Scott Hahn is currently a Professor of Theology and Scripture at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he has taught since 1990, and is the founder and director of the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology. He posted the following article in his Blog on 02.03.09:
“St. Paul always lived with an intense awareness of the grace of the moment. “Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation!” (2 Cor 6: 2). And, like Jesus before him, he was eager to observe the seasons of grace, even if it required a little extra effort (see Acts 20:16).
He recognized, too, that there were appoint times for penance and purification, and he was happy to keep them (see Acts 21:26-27), matching external observance with interior repentance. He fasted (Acts 14:23). He shaved his head (Acts 21:24). He disciplined his body with some degree of severity (1 Corinthians 9:27).
But it wasn’t all show. He did it so that he could go about “serving the Lord with all humility and tears” (Acts 20:19). St. Paul, after all, had reason to be repentant. Remember, in his youth he was the Church’s most ardent persecutor!
I can identify with him. I, too, did my share of persecuting the Church. For a solid ten years of my life, I was happiest when I drew Catholics away from the practice of their faith. I was unsparing in my assault on their beliefs. Like St. Paul, I consider Lent a mercy, because it reminds me of where I was, how far I’ve come – and how much farther God wants me to go!
He wants us all to go far. We live in demanding times, and only with discipline can we meet the demand with an adequate “supply.” Lent is a season of grace, a free gift from God, but he waits for our free response, our cooperation.
The traditional three “marks” of Lent are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, all marks of a truly Pauline spirituality. Throughout these forty days, you and I will pray. Let’s pray for one another. I need you! Throughout these forty days, you and I will fast, as the Church requires, let’s fast for one another. And, throughout these forty days, you and I will give alms. Please consider me a beggar at your door. I am begging on behalf of St. Paul’s mission, continued today through this Center you and I have dedicated to his name.
We need one another. I need you, especially in these demanding times, when so many of us are called to “be imitators” of St. Paul (1 Corinthians 11:1), following him along the most difficult path: to rejoice in suffering. “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the Church” (Col 1:24).
Prayer, fasting, almsgiving: St. Paul did it all with a penitential spirit, and look where it got the Church. God has great things left to do. Just wait and see where Lent takes us in the Year of St. Paul.”

The word “Allah” and its Contentious Usage.

Much has been said about this topic as to the usage of the word “Allah”. The use of the word has been gazetted and de-gazetted, and is now waiting for the court’s ruling as to its legality to be used by the Christian community.

In an attempt to convince the Government to legalise the usage of the word “Allah” by the Christian community, the NGO like Malaysian Bar Council and activist Ronnie Klassen, have put their OnLine poll and signature campaign respectively.

The Bar Council may face legal action from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) for holding an online poll on the use of ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims in their publications.

"The issue raised in the polls can threaten the sensitivity of Muslims," the head of the religious council Mohamad Adzib Mohamad Isa said in a statement.

He said it was empowered under religious laws to lay charges against anyone misusing the word "Allah".

The Islamic religious council in central Selangor state said it would take action against the Malaysian Bar, which represents about 12,000 lawyers, for using the word as a translation for "God" in two online polls on its Web site.

The Bar Council said it would defend its use of the word.

"I haven't received a (legal) notice yet. We are prepared to challenge it," its president, Ragunath Kesavan, said.

A signature campaign that activists in Sabah (and Sarawak) have initiated on the right of Christians in Malaysia to use the term "Allah" for God is said to have received the support of the Vatican.

Kota Kinabalu church activist Ronnie Klassen said Herald editor Father Lawrence Andrew, who is in Rome on a periodic visit to the Vatican, had indicated this in an email dated March 14, in reply to his request for views and support of the signature campaign.

It is understood that the contents of the email could not have been written without the prior approval of the Holy See.

Let us examine this contentious usage of the word “Allah” from the Muslim point of view as explained in the Muslim website.

Muslim websites have provided the following information that “the true God “Eloi” (in Aramaic) of the Bible is the same as "Allah" of the Quran.”

One classic example is when Jesus was about to give up His last breath when He died on the cross: About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Matt. 27:46

It is a known fact that every language has one or more terms that are used in reference to God and sometimes to lesser deities.

“This is not the case with Allah. Allah is the personal name of the One true God. Nothing else can be called Allah. The term has no plural or gender. This shows its uniqueness when compared with the word god who can be made plural, gods, or feminine, goddess.”

It is interesting to notice that Allah (Eloi) is the personal name of God in Aramaic, the language of Jesus and a sister language of Arabic.

Does “Allah” Mean God?

“The word "Allah" is the perfect description of the "One God" of monotheism for Jews, Christians and Muslims!”

Is "Allah" only for Islam and Muslims?[No! It is for All Three Abrahamic Faiths.]”

"Allah" is the same word used by Christian Arabs and Jewish Arabs in their Bible, centuries before Islam came.

On page one [1] of Genesis in the Old Testament, we find the word "Allah" (God) seventeen [17] times.

Every Hotel and Motel has a Bible placed in almost every room. The next time you check into a Hotel or Motel, you will normally find samples of verses translated in different languages. For Arabic they have translated the verse in the New Testament in Arabic from the famous verse in the Gospel John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world..." - and the translators used the word in Arabic for "God" is the very same word used by Muslims around the planet, “Allah”.

Where does the word “Allah” come from?  "Allah" comes from the Arabic word "elah" a ‘god' or something worshiped.”

“This word (elah) can be made plural (gods), as in "aleha" and it can be male or female just as the word in English can be "goddess."

"Allah" comes from "elaha" but it brings more clarification and understanding.

Did the Meccans worship the true God since they recognized "Allah"? Was "Allah" one of the gods of the Ka'bah? And if so, where did the Meccans derive the recognition and the name of "Allah" from?

“First, "Allah" was not one of the 360 idols which were in the Ka'bah, although Morey has claimed this without evidence. When the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) entered Makkah victorious he went into the Ka'bah and broke the idols therein.

“Second, the word "Allah" has been used all along for the name of "God" in the Arabic Bible for Jews and Christians alike. The proof is easy to verify. Simply go to any hotel or motel anyway in the world and look in the drawer next to the bed. There you can find a complimentary copy of the Bible, placed there by the Giddeons. Turn to page 5 or 6 where they list the examples of translations they have made into other languages.”

The second example given is for Arabic speakers. “The verse is from the Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 16. Everyone knows this one: "For God so loved the world..." and the word in Arabic for "God" is "Allah." Then if you have a Bible in Arabic, look on page one in Genesis, and you will find the word "Allah" 17 times.

“Next, the word for "God" to the Arabs, ever since the time of Abraham, has been "Allah" and He is to them, the Lord of the Ka'bah (the black box in the center of the Holy Sanctuary in Makkah). He was the unseen God whom they would call upon when in distress. Yes, they worshipped the true God but their worship was not purely for Him. They also worshipped other gods thinking that they would act as intermediaries between them and the true God Allah.”

“The Arabs know of “Allah” because Abraham visited Makkah and together with his son Ishmael laid the foundation of the Ka'bah. The descendants of Ishmael retained some of the worship rites and beliefs from Abraham. This included their knowledge of the true God Allah.”

Allah appears in both the Qur'ânic and Arabic Bible images. Indeed, the word Allah appears throughout Arabic translations of the Bible, since it is simply the Arabic name for Almighty God.

It has, therefore, been shown conclusively (elsewhere) that the true God, "El" or “Eloi” of the Bible is the same as "Allah" of the Quran.

Laptop Computer grabbed and stolen by Robbers

When my laptop computer (model Compaq silver-white in colour) was robbed from my daughter while she was surfing with it at my house veranda last Wednesday, 18/03/09 at 2.00pm by two unidentified dark complexion men, I thought that the loss of that computer did not really matter much as I have another laptop computer as my own personal use in my computer room. I was wrong! All the information and documents saved inside the computer which was literally robbed right under the nose of my daughter, were far more important and valuable than the computer itself.
I had this habit of transferring and saving all my documents and personal information, photographs and other important family documents into that computer which acts as my backup computer.
As I woke up early this morning at 5.00am and was preparing to leave for Dontozidon Church to attend the 6.30am mass service, I suddenly realised that, along with the computer, I have also lost important documents, bank account numbers and their ATM pin numbers, Credit Card numbers and their pins, and more importantly my family photographs, KSS members photographs, home made movies as well as those of personal and family friends' photographs.
I do not mind loosing those information of my bank accounts and my credit cards, but some of the documents and photographs that I had been saving since I was still working with the Government service, might be used for malicious and ill-intent purposes.
Having realized the grave consequences of having lost those documents, especially those photographs with which the computer photo shop program can reproduce beyond anybody's imagination, I had this chill down my spine.

"10-3" Thieves.

The table where my daughter Rubyanne (pix) was surfing.
The drinks the 'thieves' left behind.

I have just posted an article yesterday regarding thieves categorised as “pick-pocket” and “push-pocket”. Another category of thieves just happened in my own home at Kg. Babah. I categorise them as “10-3” thieves when two men who came to drink beer at SJD Kedai Runcit, snatched away a laptop computer from my daughter.

The incident happened this afternoon at 2.00pm at SJD Kedai Runcit when two guys, both dressed in black T-shirts and jeans dropped in to drink a set of beer and a can of Coca-Cola.

I was resting inside my room at that time and my 14-year old daughter was surfing with her lap-top computer outside while, at the same time, manning the Kedai Runcit. Two dark complexion Temorese-like or Bugis-like nationalities came up and ordered their drinks.

At first my daughter was accompanied by my worker who attended to these two men. While they were drinking, they pretended to order some foods and my worker went to the kitchen to prepare their order. Moments later my worker left for the kitchen, the two men grabbed hold of the computer, detached the power cord from the computer and left with it, leaving the power cable behind still intact onto the wall socket.

My daughter at once screamed to alert me when the ‘thieves’ snatched away the laptop computer from her, literally right under nose. When I came out they were already speeding away in a white car coupe fast back, which was parked, ironically, towards the main gate.

Police from Penampang was alerted immediately to inform the other Police Peronda to locate the vehicle and the two men as described above. The police arrived at the scene to take statements from my daughter at 2.39pm.

Even in broad daylight, this thing can happen at anytime, any place.

Is this the Sign of Times?

...............................................................................................

I was so disappointed by the effectiveness of the coordination between the 'Polis Peronda' (WNQ 6719) and the CID Section of Penampang Balai Polis. I was told to make a Police Report within 24 hours to which I agreed. The Polis Peronda personnels (3 of them) also instructed me not to disturb the beer cans and beer glasses that were left behind by the robbers as the CID personnel would be coming to dust for finger prints. This is quite normal in criminal case.

By 4.00pm, the CID personnel did not show up until I called Balai Polis Penampang. I was informed by the CID personnel that the Polis Peronda never called to inform him about the incident and the urgency of dusting for fingerprints. The finger prints, I thought, would greatly help them in the course of their investigation, or to place the finger prints into their data base.

As I had to rush for my prayer meeting at Tg. Aru, I therefore called back the Peronda personnel at 4.00pm to find out why the CID personnel did not turn up. To my consternation, he did not even inform the CID Section. Earlier on, he had assured me that he would do so. He did not call the CID and told me to call him instead.

I called the Balai Polis at 08871222 and was connected to CID Section. I had to relate the whole story again to the Lady Personnel what had transpired. She insisted that I should come to Balai to make a formal Police Report of the incident before they could make further investigation, i.e. to dust for the finger prints. I certainly agree to this procedure.

Earlier on, I was told by the Peronda Police Personnel to make the Police report within 24 hours. He also left his instruction not to disturb the beer cans and beer glasses on the table until the CID personnel had come to take the finger-print-dusting procedures.

If I were to make the Police report at the 24th hour, is it logical to leave the Beer Cans and glasses on the table for the next 24 hours? Is it not to their advantage to immediately carry out the criminal investigation by getting the finger prints without delay, and which they can also use them for future investigation, or update their data base?

It was only at 6.00pm in the evening when the CID personnel finally called to inform me that he had come to my house already to do the dusting for finger prints. I sent to him an sms to his tel. no. (0193596001) informing him of my report as per my blog above.

This is a case of poor coordiantion (or refusing to talk to each other) between the two sections under one Department. The OCPD of Balai Penampang should look into this matter and try to improve the efficiency and public image of his Police personnels.

For the information of OCPD Balai Penampang, the dusting did not produce the desired result. The beer cans and glasses left by the robbers were still wet -  aggravated by the mists caused by sprays of rain droplets during the heavy rain in the evening - and hence the dust could not adhere properly to show a clear imprint of the robbers' fingers.

The OCPD Penampang is reminded here to check whether the Polis Peronda personnel (WNQ 6719) had actually alerted the other Perondas in Penampang District, KK, or even in Papar to look for the car described above. He (Peronda personnel) had assured me before he left at around 3.00pm that he was going to do it. If not, again the Peronda personnel had lapsed in his policing duty.
